Dorthy.com is a new service that moves beyond search – letting users create living pages around anything they are interested in or want to achieve. Each page searches the web 24/7 for the most relevant content providing collaborative and actionable results. These pages learn from the users activity, enhancing and customizing with each interaction. By incorporating social features like subscribing to similar search activity and resource sharing, Dorthy.comʼs Living Search is unlike anything else on the web.
Dorthy.com users create Living Search pages by entering a fully formed question, statement, or phrase, such as “run a marathon in 4 hours.” These Living Search pages donʼt pay attention to keywords but rather parse the semantics of the userʼs input using our proprietary algorithms. The service utilizes a variety of technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Psychographic Targeting, Common Sense Reasoning, and Semantic Understanding. The technology has gone through 12 months of private beta testing and recently released its public alpha.
Unlike sites like Hunch.com or Chemestry.com that match information using a long survey process, Dorthy.com matches information based on a users natural activity and it’s understanding of their true intent. Because each page retains this information and continues to search even after the user has closed their browser, we’re able to provide quicker access and more accurately matched content than traditional search.
The company makes money through market research, targeted advertising, brand partnerships, and technology licensing. The service provides unmatched capabilities to digital media distributors and producers – providing deeper, faster, and more affordable insights. The company has entered into a partnership with OTX Research to onboard initial marketing research clients during the serviceʼs beta season.
Randy Schwartz, the National Search Director for Carat recently said: “Even the best search technology shows a disconnect in consideration between the publishers that create content and the audience that consumes it. And social networks largely promote shared connections to those we already know. Dorthy.com overcomes both shortcomings by mining individual behaviors from exogenous populations and applying those insights to deliver the most relevant and compelling content. By connecting us with people outside our existing circles, dorthy.com can share perspectives and wisdom that drive our own explorations in newand interesting ways.”
